POV: MIHO

In the midst of the blazing flames, a burnt-out man shouts.

“I’ve got a taste of your blood! Don’t think you can get away from me!”

The kobolds entangled my legs as I tried to escape from those grey eyes.

The staff stabbed into my right hand as I fell, causing me to experience intense pain. When I looked up, I saw a priest standing there.

“Your presence is dangerous. Your thoughts could disturb the harmony of the world.”

The priest put more force into his staff. Again, the pain was intense in my right hand.

“You will help us in the first trial of the brave.”

A man came up to me, licking his lips.

“I’m going to skin you alive and torture you to death.”

I wanted to run away, but my right hand was firmly pierced with the staff and I couldn’t move.

Just when I was about to give up in desperation, I heard

“Don’t worry. My grandpa will help you.”

I heard Garon’s voice.

“Miho, hang in there. We’ve got your back.”

When I woke up, I saw a familiar ceiling.

(Home? What, it was a dream? (From where?)

I was confused, unable to distinguish between the dream and reality when I squeezed my right hand.

“Miho, you’re awake!”

Shiva looked relieved and helped sit up.

“Miho! Great!”

I stroked my forehead as Garon leaned in close to my face and happily wagged his tail, destroying the furniture around him

(Huh?) Isn’t this Shiva’s room? (Why am I sleeping in Shiva’s bed?

I was thinking idly in my sleepy head when Nils and Larson walked into the room.

“Oh! You’re awake!”

“I’m so glad. I didn’t know what to expect at one point.

(Oh, right. I was attacked by a kobold at Morris’ house for flour.)

(That red hair guy caught me and I thought I was done for.)

Surrounded by everyone, I finally felt confident that I was safe, and before I knew it, I was crying.

“Are you okay? Does it hurt somewhere?”

Shiva cared for me, gently stroking my head.

“No. I am just relieved to see everyone’s face. Thank you for coming to help. I really thought it was no good.”

I cried and laughed, and everyone laughed with relief.

Nils spoke to me.

“You did well after all that. Doesn’t your back hurt?”

“Yes, I’m fine. But more importantly, in my dream, I was stabbed in my right hand and it hurt.”

When I told them about the nightmare I had just had, they looked at each other.

“That priest, he even appeared in my dream. I also wonder what happened to the man with the red hair?”

“Don’t worry. The man is now on his way to be handed over by Morris to the Demon King.”

“I’ve put him in ice so he can’t escape.”

“I would have killed him right there if he wasn’t guilty,” muttered Shiva.

“By the way, what happened in the subterranean lake? The ship was on fire when we got there.”

Nils’ question made me frown as I remembered something unpleasant.

“He was going to toy with me until he got tired of me, and then he was going to feed me to the kobolds while I was still alive, so I figured I’d just die over there, but I didn’t want to keep getting beaten up, so I decided to set the whole ship on fire with the intention of exploding it.”

“How did you manage to light it up?”

“I put flour all over the place. Then he got angry so I hit him over the head with a bag of flour and then jumped into the lake. Sure enough, he grabbed the torch to look for me. I think the flour in the air ignited and all at once then burnt.”

Nils looked taken aback by my story and opened his mouth.

“….I’m surprised. How did you come up with that?”

“Hahahaha! That’s a big deal. You just gave Berger a run for his money.”

Larson laughed loudly and energetically.

“Well, I didn’t prepare very well, and I ended up getting caught and nearly killed.”

It still didn’t go as well as the movies. I don’t know what I would have done now if they hadn’t come to my rescue.

“Anyway, I’m glad we’re safe. Well, we should go home now. Take care of yourself, Miho.”

“Come visit us again. We’ll celebrate your recovery with a little fruit wine.”

TN: I think not…

Shiva chuckled at that.

“Miho, it may be a little heavy, but allow me a little more for now. I haven’t slept since yesterday because I’ve been worried about you.”

“I know. Thanks, Garon”

I patted his head as he said this. I was happy with the weight and warmth on my lap.

“I’ll get you a drink and some fruit or something. Are you ready to eat?”

“Yeah, I could eat some of it.”

“Well, let me know if you’re feeling a little sick or unwell.”

With that, Shiva left the room.

When I closed my eyes from exhausting, the fire came back behind my eyelids.

I really thought I was going to die. The fear of that moment didn’t seem to go away.

I’m so glad I survived.

They said the man was handed over to the Demon King. I’ll never see him again.

◇◆◆◆◆◆◆.

The whole day was spent in Shiva’s room, the three of us together.

The kobold’s bite wound healed without leaving a mark, and I didn’t feel any pain anywhere, but Shiva was so kind to me that I was embarrassed, taking care of my body the whole time.

Garon didn’t want to leave me either, and I spent the rest of the day in a somewhat fluffy mood.

At night, as I was relaxing in Shiva’s room, there was a discreet knock on the door.

As Shiva left the room to answer it, I heard Morris’s voice a few moments later.

“Sorry I’m late,” said Morris. “My brothers told me everything was okay, and I’m glad to hear that Miho is better now. How is she feeling?”

“Yeah, she’s better now. Thanks to Nils and Larson, too. Come on in.”

“No, that’s fine. I’ve got something to say.”

I was going to say hello to Morris and offer him a cup of tea, but I decided to wait and see if the conversation was going to get serious.

“What’s the matter? You didn’t let the Half Breed bas**rd get away did you?”

“No, it’s not. I handed him over to the Demon King safely. It’s just that…”

“What?”

I heard a loud sigh from Morris.

“This is the worst. Shiva, as you predicted, that man was involved in the kidnapping of beastmen children. They say he’s making them pro*****te themselves to humans.”

“What? that bastard!”

“Yeah, I tried to get him to tell me where the children were so that I could rescue the victims as soon as possible, but he’s a tough guy… he had a condition before he told us where the children were.”

“The thieving bastard… What are the terms?”

“…give me Miho,” he says.

I turned pale as I listened to their exchange from Shiva’s room.

In my head, a man’s voice echoed.

“I’ve got a taste of your blood! Don’t think you can get away from me!”

I felt like a nightmare was going on.
